What to say

Always be calm and reassuring to whomever you are speaking to. If you are concerned that they are having a crisis event (psychosis- they are not making sense or you believe they may be in danger of harming themselves). Ask if you can call for someone to help them. If they decline and otherwise sound ok, provide resources and end the call. If you are not comfortable with their aparent state of mind, call one of the crisis numbers to get them help.

If you have to call 911 or any other kind of crisis hotline, be sure to mention you are calling on behalf of someone having a  mental health crisis
